The future is now: delivering the sustainable development goals

The conference aims to explore new ways to deliver the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The Future is Now” is a shared learning event. It will look at how a European-level dialogue can mobilise and accelerate the transformation needed. This would include governments, civil society, academic and business communities.

The First Minister of Wales, Rt Hon Mark Drakeford, will give a keynote speech. This will reflect on the innovative approach taken in Wales through the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015. The act provides a comprehensive legislative response to the SDGs.

Participants will also hear from inspiring speakers including:

  • Sophie Howe, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales
  • Christian Felber, writer and activist
  • Professor Sabine Gabrysch, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research

Future Generation Leaders from the Future Generation Academy in Wales will represent the views of young people. They will also be addressing the urgency needed during the decade of action.

Following the shared learning event there will be a Wales Reception, hosted by the First Minister of Wales. Representatives from Welsh cultural organisations will show how the Future Generations Act is incorporated into their work. There will be performances by:

  • Rufus Mufasa, Future Generations Commissioner’s Poet in Residence, and
  • Ifor ap Glyn, National Poet of Wales
