AN INDEPENDENT pub’s outdoor area was full – within one hour of reopening.
The Butterfly Collector, on Holton Road, opened their ‘gutter garden’ today in line with the Welsh Government announcement that outdoor hospitality could resume from April 26.
The micropub opened their loading bay, with tables and chairs two metres apart, at 2pm – with the area full just an hour later.
Owner Gareth Slattery said: “It’s all been really good – we were full within the hour.
“Everybody seems to be enjoying themselves and we’ve not had any hassle so far.
“I’m hoping the garden can stay, but everything is weather dependent. They’re a hardy bunch, and we’ve got a few umbrellas, but if you’re cold you’re cold.”
The venue, which was awarded SME National Pub Of The Year 2019/20, has been operating on a first come first served basis, rather than bookings.
Those wishing to find out about available can message the The Butterfly Collector’s Facebook page.
The Butterfly Collector does not have a bar, so has always offered table service which has continued. The business has expanded its menu to include four new cocktails and ‘Fukoffee’ coffee.
People wishing to order a drink there are asked to call over a staff member to order, with a maximum of four people per table.
Guests are asked to sign-in and to sanitize their hands, with signage on each table reminding people to adhere to coronavirus guidelines while being respectful of the neighbourhood and the people in the area.
