The following morning RSPCA and fire fighters – who received a call that morning – were at the scene.

A member of the public who witnessed the rescue, Kathy Edwards, said: “After a lot of persuasion – because the cat was going from one side to another – the fireman got hold of her head and a leg.

“After some gentle pulling, he got hold of Rocket and descended the ladder with the cat in one arm.

“On the ground the RSPCA were waiting with a basket.”

“Fortunately, the RSPCA scanned for the microchip before trying to lower her into the cage as she escaped and went like a rocket through the back gardens to home,” added Ms Edwards.

“The RSPCA called around to Rocket’s home to return the collar and explain the trauma the cat had experienced.”

The RSPCA has been contacted for comment.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) confirmed that they helped rescued Rocket.

A spokeswoman for SWFRS said: “We received a report of small animal rescue on Cherry Close, Murch in Dinas Powys.

“A crew attended the scene and worked at height and successfully rescued a cat.”
