FULL fibre broadband is being brought to the Vale of Glamorgan.
Welsh broadband company, Ogi, recently announced work is underway to bring full fibre broadband – which is “top-speed” and “future-proof” to the Vale of Glamorgan.
The engineering work, which has started in Rhoose and will soon extend to Llantwit Major and St Athan, will create an all-new fibre optic cable network throughout the Vale, bringing a better broadband experience to homes and local businesses.
Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, Councillor Kathryn McCaffer, said: “This scheme will provide residents in the Vale of Glamorgan with fast, reliable broadband, something that is absolutely vital in the modern world.
“The pandemic has further emphasised just how important broadband is. It has kept us connected with work and in touch with loved ones and the Council is delighted to be partnering with Ogi on this project.”
Full fibre broadband is faster, more reliable and more sustainable than traditional services. Ogi is specifically targeting under-served areas, accelerating the pace of full fibre roll out across south Wales – and transforming the digital landscape for generations to come. As work begins in the Vale, sister projects are also starting in Abergavenny and Haverfordwest.
Ogi is laying 100km of cutting-edge fibre cables in the Vale of Glamorgan, which will mean ultrafast broadband up to 9000 Mbps.
Chief Revenue Officer at Ogi, Sally-Anne Skinner, said: “Local residents in Rhoose, Llantwit Major and St. Athan will see Ogi engineers over the next few weeks as we upgrade the network across the Vale.
“Our friendly Ogi team will also be around, answering questions and helping residents discover what real fibre broadband can do for them.”
“Made and built in Wales for Wales, we’re working on making ‘full fibre’ real and relevant for every person who joins our service, by bringing new experiences to life: we’ll be the internet promise that delivers,” added Ogi CEO Ben Allwright.
“Gamers will game. Zoomers will zoom. Businesses will grow. Everyone getting on with what they need to.
“We’re totally committed to helping every Welsh community build back better. Everyone prospers when brilliant broadband delivers real opportunities, resilience and sustainability, and we have big ambitions to see Wales flourish.”
