A MAN suffered life threatening injuries after being hit by a car on New Year’s Day.

South Wales Police say the man is still in hospital after being hit by a Lexus on the evening of January 1.

The incident happened on Barry Road A4055, just before it merges with Cardiff Road outside Penarth.

The road was closed for several hours and police say they are carrying out further investigations into the incident.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “At around 7.00pm on New Year’s Day emergency services were called following a road traffic collision which involved a male pedestrian and a Lexus car.

“The 46-year-old pedestrian was taken to the University Hospital of Wales with injuries described as life-threatening.  He remains in hospital.

“The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

“The A4055 between Penarth Road and the Merrie Harrier public house was closed for several hours.

“Motorists and the public are thanked for their patience during this time.”
