Today (Friday, June 4) is National Fish and Chip Day – and what better way to mark the occasion than by reminding ourselves of the tasty fish and chips we can get right here in the Vale of Glamorgan.
The national event, celebrating one of our favourite meals, is acknowledged right across the UK.

Plassey Fish Bar, Penarth
This fish and chip shop, located on Plassey Street, was a clear favourite among our readers, with many calling it their “go to” place.
Sarah Dare said it was her “favourite.”
They are also on Just Eat, covering deliveries to the whole of Penarth, Llandough, Sully, Dinas Powys (within a three mile radius).
Normal delivery hours will be approximately 5pm until 10pm, seven days a week.

Fryer Tuck Fish and Chips, Barry
A traditional fish and chip shop open six days a week located on Richard Street near the heart of the town centre – just behind Wilkos.

Irene’s Supper Bar, Barry
A staple fish and chip shop in the area for many years, located on Park Crescent, with reader Beth Lloyd-Hughes saying she “used to love going to Irene’s in Park Crescent as a kid.”
Weston KT said: “Irene’s has always been a hit in our house.”
Harvey’s Fish & Chips, Barry
Located on Vale Street, one reader said it is “Harvey’s all day.”
Another reader Gill Rees said she has her Harvey’s order with “lashings of salt and vinegar.”
O’Sheas’s Fish & Chip Café, Barry
This fish and chip shop was established in 1946 and situated at the popular seaside resort of Barry Island.
Reader Jackie Elliot said they do “the best fish and chips” in the area.
