Rogue trader who conned elderly residents out of life savings handed suspended jail sentence

20th October 2022A rogue trader who attempted to scam six elderly residents out of more than £200,000 has been sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.

Levi Davies, 24, of Manor Park, Kidlington, pleaded guilty on behalf of his companies, LJ Building Services and latterly, Manor Property Services, at Reading Magistrates’ Court. more

Bogus builder scams Gateshead woman out of nearly £5,000 after leaving home ‘destroyed’

27th October 2022A Gateshead woman who lost £4,700 to a bogus builder has said she felt ‘betrayed and devastated’ after her kitchen was left in a state of despair.

The 57-year-old agreed to pay some of the price upfront after viewing what appeared to be a legitimate website and reading complimentary reviews of his services but the man failed to turn up. more

Trading standards officers in Hartlepool have issued a warning over a sophisticated scam involving the apparent refund of an Amazon subscription fee.

They raised the alarm after a local resident became suspicious of a caller and had the composure to alert Trading Standards at Hartlepool Borough Council while the criminal was still on the line. more

Telford & Wrekin Council have issued a warning that criminals are posing as court enforcement officers and bailiffs acting on behalf of the council.
During the calls, the criminals claim that the person or business owes money and demands that they transfer funds directly into a bank account. more

Brits have been warned to “stay alert for fraud” as more people are out to make extra cash as the cost of living rises across the country.

UK Finance have said that more than half (56%) of people admitted that they are likely to look for opportunities to make extra money in the coming months, which could leave some people more susceptible to fraud. more
