The conmen, who pretended to be water officials, have tricked their way into homes by telling victims there was an issue with their supply between 9th and 20th January. more

TV licence scam: Warning over Covid refund payment text

Criminals are sending out fake texts to BBC TV licence holders offering a Covid refund payment in an attempt to steal personal and financial information.
The National Trading Standards Scams Team says the text offers a link to an “extremely convincing” fake website where people are asked to input their bank details to claim a refund. more

Lincolnshire Police issue a warning after criminals impersonate cops in attempt to scam Boston man

Criminals posing as police officers tried to cheat a Boston man out of money twice in a single day.
The ‘officer’ claimed that the victim’s grandson had been arrested on suspicion of using a cloned bank card that belonged to his wife and that he must call 101. more

Criminals target savers with fake Covid-19 ‘vaccine bonds’, claiming they are backed by Pfizer

Criminals are exploiting the coronavirus pandemic by targeting savers with online adverts claiming their money will be invested in Covid-19 “vaccine bonds”.

The adverts emailed to potential victims falsely claim that US bank Citigroup will invest their money in drug company Pfizer. more

Big spike in work-from-home phishing email

Phishing email attacks related to working from home are rising amid the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, according to KnowBe4 research.

KnowBe4’s quarter four 2020 top-clicked phishing report reveals the top ten general email subjects. It also includes the top ten in-the-wild email subject lines. more

Cumbria Trading Standards are making residents aware of a bitcoin investment scam email that is circulating.
Action Fraud have received more 400 reports in just two days of the scam. more
