As of this week, town centres in the Vale of Glamorgan will have new coronavirus safety signage installed in the form of bollard covers. The new covers will remind shoppers to maintain a 2-metre distance, wear a face covering, to follow arrows and queue markers and to keep their hands clean. Read more
Scout Post is a scheme that offers the public of Cardiff and most parts of the Vale of Glamorgan an opportunity to send Christmas Cards at a fraction of the cost of other postal services. It has been in operation for 35 years and was the ‘brainchild’ of a group in Roath. Read more
The first public electric bike share scheme in Wales has been launched in Penarth by global bike share operator nextbike, thanks to funding from The Vale of Glamorgan Council Read more

Health
Public Health Wales, said: “Public Health Wales welcomes the decision of the Welsh Government to introduce restrictions on indoor venues ahead of Christmas period, in order to reduce the opportunities for the virus to spread in our communities and to keep people safe. Read more
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has been working in partnership with Cardiff Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council to identify centres to deliver the Covid 19 vaccinations. Read more
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the NHS screening services were paused. As services are re-instated, Public Health Wales’ Screening Engagement and Vaccination Teams are reviewing the way in which community engagement is carried out. Read more
Flexibility, autonomy and the promotion of a healthy work/life balance are also identified as positive impacts of home and agile working in a new report from Public Health Wales. Read more

As we are unable, this year, to provide a free meal for the elderly, lonely and vulnerable families we are hoping to provide bigger food bags, and selection boxes for all the children. Your help is invaluable to us as a community. We are aiming to give out 80 food bags costing £400 and 300 selection boxes costing £300. Read more

Starting this week (week commencing the 16th of November) Menter Iaith Bro Morgannwg, who promote the social use of Welsh in the Vale of Glamorgan, are starting two new sessions at CF61. Read more

Events
Since the awarding of Healthy and Active funding in 2019, several Sporting Memories Clubs have been established in Wales, both face to face and online through Zoom. Of course, increasing that number has not been easy over the last few months! But we are proud of what has been achieved so far, with the support and hard work of our partners and volunteers. Read more
Following on from our event on the 29th October we are hosting our second online event to help address some of the barriers older people face when accessing their communities in Wales. We understand that when groups and services start to re-open, there needs to be measures in place to ensure older people are safe, feel valued and are welcomed back into their communities. Read more
We will be holding a Christmas raffle on Saturday, 19th December. Tickets can be obtained from Rita’s Multicultural Café at 97 Main Street, Barry CF63 2HL, and will be available from 25th November. The draw will take place at 4pm outside the cafe. All proceeds will go to our chosen charities. Read more

  • Individuals offering to help their local community
  • Voluntary and Community groups developing their own contingency plans
  • Public Sector partners seeking the best way to access safe, coordinated voluntary and community-based support for the Residents of the Vale of Glamorgan.
In our role as the County Voluntary Council for the Vale of Glamorgan we are concentrating our efforts on being the conduit between support offered and support needed, whilst supporting organisations, some newly formed, with their governance and planning.  All staff are currently working from home so please bear with us.
