The Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Integrated Health and Social Care Partnership has allocated £49,857 funding from the Welsh Government’s Integrated Care Fund (ICF), to support new, or additional or revised third sector community services in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The Third Sector Capital Investment Fund is managed and administered by Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS). Read more
Our first priority is to bring back FareShare, so as of Thursday 13th August, we are opening the doors of CF61 and welcoming all in the community to come and collect some free food that has been provided from local Supermarkets from their end of day stock. The collections will be every Thursday 1pm – 3pm at CF61 Llantwit Major. Read more

All nominees must work or act for a National Lottery funded organisation or have received National Lottery funding. Winners in each category will receive a £3,000 cash prize for their organisation and a coveted National Lottery Awards trophy. Entries must be received by midnight on 19th August 2020. Read more
We are a virtual group of people who like sewing. I became aware of the need for scrubs in March before lockdown as a friend was making them in a group in Oldham. I joined the national ‘For the Love of Scrubs’ Facebook group which was set up by a nurse in England and became very aware that there was a UK wide shortage. Read more

WCVA is still working on its response to the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee’s consultation on the impact of Covid-19 on the environment, climate change, agriculture, fisheries and animal welfare. Read more
Following Bro Radio’s launch on 100.2fm in Llantwit Major and surrounding areas, the station has now announced plans to launch in Penarth later this year on 106.1fm – bringing its service across the Vale of Glamorgan Coast. Launched back in 2009, Bro Radio is a volunteer led community radio service – which has continued to deliver local radio for the county during lockdown, from the homes of it volunteers. Read more
MEDIA RELEASE 7TH August 2020 Help Search for Seashells on the Seashore! Do you love exploring the rocky shore, searching for seaweeds, counting crabs or peering at periwinkles? The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales’ (WTSWW) are now resuming activities with volunteers and are looking for marine enthusiasts to assist with Shoresearch surveys. Read more

Bawso has been appointed by Comic Relief and the National Emergencies Trust to provide grants to BAME-led organisations in Wales to help them meet the needs of their members resulting from COVID-19 Read more
The Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund – Wales has been established. Its purpose is to help mental health VCS organisations based in Wales continue to provide services – or provide additional support. Read more
Voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system with under £500,000 annual income can apply now for grant funding to support their vital work during Covid-19 or to make adaptations as we look ahead towards recovery and a ‘new normal’. Read more

Updated Sunday 9th August at 2pm. Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Welsh Government has announced changes to the lockdown measures effective from Monday 10 August, which will enable indoor swimming pools, gyms, fitness studios and leisure centres to re-open premises. Physical distancing and enhanced cleaning measures must be undertaken. Read more
Vaughan Gething MS, Minister for Health and Social Services I am pleased to announce the launch of a Welsh Government funded, bespoke Samaritans helpline which, in Wales, is dedicated both to NHS workers and the social care workforce. The service will launch today; 03 August 2020. Read more
The self-isolation period has been extended to 10 days for those in the community who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms or a positive test result. Read more

The Food Vale partnership, hosted by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s local public health team was this week announced as the newest member of the UK Sustainable Food Places Network. Read more
Wales largest ever flu campaign, which will see more people benefit from the free flu vaccine programme has been announced today (July 24) by the Minster for Health, Vaughan Gething. Read more
The Vale of Glamorgan Council and Cardiff Council are working in partnership to provide unpaid carers in the region with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Read more
Soon community halls will be opening again. The Swimming Dragon School which teaches Tai Chi and Kung Fu are looking for venues to start Covid safe classes in the Vale. Read more
CAV 24/7 is a new and innovative approach to how patients access urgent care, the main message being: phone first for urgent and out of hours care. Traditionally patients have been able to access our Emergency Unit and services by walking in and the “phone first” system replaces this. Patients will be encouraged to phone ahead first, and if appropriate will be given an appointment slot saving them precious time and also NHS resources. Read more

We’d like to tell you about our new suite of online sessions beginning next week. The Me Time project, funded by Welsh Government, will be run from August to March 2021 every week based around carer’s wellbeing and mental health support. Some of our opening sessions include mindfulness, story-telling, yoga and hints and tips for coming out of lockdown. We are being guided by carers to what type of sessions to put on and we will be evolve the program as we work alongside carers to give them the best possible experience. Read more

Glamorgan Voluntary Services 
The Staff team at GVS are currently fielding many responses and queries from
  • Individuals offering to help their local community
  • Voluntary and Community groups developing their own contingency plans
  • Public Sector partners seeking the best way to access safe, coordinated voluntary and community-based support for the Residents of the Vale of Glamorgan.
In our role as the County Voluntary Council for the Vale of Glamorgan we are concentrating our efforts on being the conduit between support offered and support needed, whilst supporting organisations, some newly formed, with their governance and planning.  All staff are currently working from home so please bear with us.
