Fairtrade Fortnight: Choose the World you want competition

YOUNGSTERS in the Vale are being invited to ‘choose the world you want’ as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.

Fairtrade Fortnight has returned for 2022, taking place from Monday, February 21, until to Sunday, March 6, with young people invited to send a message to inspire climate action and highlight the need to listen to farmers impacted by this.

This message, on the theme of ‘choose the world you want’ can be artwork, video, a placard, or a poem, with prizes for pupils as primary and secondary schools including for their school or college.

Entries will be considered for the Vale Fairtrade exhibition, and forwarded to the Fairtrade Foundation, with an exhibition including works to tour the Vale of Glamorgan later this year.

The deadline for submission is Friday, March 4 – e-mail [email protected] for more information.

Penarth Times:

Judges for this year’s competition include Phil Gauci from the Vale of Glamorgan Libraries and the Welsh Government’s minister for social justice Jane Hutt.

The competition is being supported by Fairtrade groups across the Vale, including Barry, Dinas Powys, Llantwit Major and Penarth, as well as the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Fairtrade Barry chair, Cllr Ian Johnson, said: “Fairtrade fortnight is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of choosing Fairtrade products and the the growing challenges that climate change brings to farmers and workers in the communities where the Fairtrade movement works.

“There are also lots of events taking place online and in the community this year, as Covid restrictions are reduced, so look out for what’s happening in your town and village across the Vale.”
