Digital resources to share with your community during COVID-19

Sgroliwch i lawr am Gymraeg / Scroll down for Welsh

Foreword by Matthew Lloyd, Programme Manager, Digital Communities Wales

Dear colleagues and friends,

Welcome to our next instalment of the Digital Communities Wales (DCW) newsletter which is designed to help people stay connected, find reliable information and stay healthy during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Supporting our loved ones

Many of us will have vulnerable family and friends that are having to self isolate at the moment.  Being unable to help directly is tough on them and on us.  I’m sure many of us are being called upon for tech support from those who urgently need that support. Whether just to keep in touch with family and friends, to try and place a food order or to join in some family fun. We are currently in demand.

This week I was called into action to help my mother who, along with Dad and the family dog Poppy, is on the 12 week lockdown.  Mam (Wendy) wanted to join the church group meeting and it was going to be run through the video conference application, Zoom, but then for some “mysterious reason” was switched to Skype.  I guided Mam to download the app and create an account which took a little time and patience (you most certainly need that before leaving Mam to add the necessary people). Of course, 10 minutes later we had a family call, which I couldn’t take, 30 minutes later we had another, which my sister couldn’t take, so 60 minutes later we finally got our first Skype family chat. Mam thrilled to see us, Dad happily sitting in his recliner and our dog Poppy very confused and surprisingly camera shy!

This is a very difficult and challenging time for people, especially those vulnerable and those who may live alone.  We are all supporting our loved ones and neighbours as best and as safely as we can during this current crisis and no doubt many of you are helping them to connect with others through their digital devices. Since our last edition, we have been working hard at DCW to develop specific resources and online training courses that might be of use to you. There is alot of information out there for people to get their heads around but with more than a decade experience at the Wales Co-operative Centre in tackling digital exclusion, we have created some very easy to use and accessible online resource boards for you to use and share with your family, friends, colleagues and service users.

DCW Resource Boards

Your one stop shop for online resources during COVID-19

To create these boards, we used an application called Padlet because it is simple to navigate and allows us to group information according to its relevance to a topic. We can update each Padlet page as soon as a new resource is discovered, so I would recommend bookmarking the above links and keep an eye out for our daily updates.

If you would like to find out further information on our themed padlets, please visit our dedicated COVID-19 page on the Digital Communities Wales website. Here you will find other useful resources and guidance to help you through the current situation, including the brilliant Learn My Way Resources and BT Skills for Tomorrow, built by our UK partners, Good Things Foundation.

Watch out for scams!

Platforms such as Facebook Community Groups, WhatsApp Groups and the Nextdoor social network that send neighborhood alerts can be great ways of staying in touch with those around you, however it can be difficult to know who to trust. The National Trading Standards (NTS) Scams Team has produced some helpful materials to help promote awareness around coronavirus (COVID-19) scams at this difficult time. As well as a helpful download on how to protect people and prevent them from becoming victims of online scams, the website also some useful training materials for people who want to become a ‘Friend Against Scams’.

Here to help you

We have a fantastic team on hand to help the people you support to get online and we are doing our best to work within ever changing conditions. However, I must state that we currently only have a limited amount of kit to loan out which as you can imagine is in high demand. We are currently trying to improve this situation but we are always here to provide you with support, guidance and training – just phone us on 0300 111 5050 or email [email protected].

Take care of yourselves and one another.

Rhagair gan Matthew Lloyd, Rheolwr y Rhaglen, Cymunedau Digidol Cymru

Annwyl gyd-weithwyr a chyfeillion,

Croeso i rifyn nesaf cylchlythyr Cymunedau Digidol Cymru, sydd wedi’i fwriadu i helpu pobl i gadw mewn cysylltiad, dod o hyd i wybodaeth ddibynadwy, a chadw’n iach yn ystod yr achosion hyn o COVID-19.

Cefnogi ein hanwyliaid

Bydd gan nifer ohonom deulu a ffrindiau sy’n fregus ac sy’n gorfod hunanynysu ar hyn o bryd. Mae methu helpu’n uniongyrchol yn anodd iddynt hwy ac i ni. Rwy’n siŵr bod llawer ohonom yn cael ceisiadau am gymorth technegol gan y rheiny y mae arnynt angen cymorth ar frys. Boed hynny er mwyn cadw mewn cysylltiad â theulu a ffrindiau, ceisio gwneud archeb am fwyd, neu ymuno ag ychydig o hwyl gyda’r teulu, mae yna alw amdanom ar hyn o bryd.

Yr wythnos hon, roedd angen i mi helpu Mam, yn ogystal â Dad a chi’r teulu, Poppy, sy’n cael eu gwahardd rhag symud am 12 wythnos. Roedd Mam (Wendy) am ymuno â chyfarfod grŵp yr Eglwys, ac roedd hwnnw am gael ei gynnal trwy’r ap fideogynadledda, Zoom, ond a gafodd wedyn, “am ryw reswm rhyfedd” ei newid i Skype. Arweiniais Mam trwy’r broses o lawrlwytho’r ap a chreu cyfrif – cymerodd hynny ychydig o amser ac amynedd, ac roedd wir angen hynny – cyn gadael Mam i ychwanegu’r bobl angenrheidiol. Wrth gwrs, 10 munud yn ddiweddarach, cawsom alwad teulu nad oeddwn i’n gallu ei ateb; 30 munud yn ddiweddarach cawsom alwad teulu arall nad oedd fy chwaer yn gallu ei ateb; felly, 60 munud yn ddiweddarach cawsom ein sgwrs deuluol ar Skype, o’r diwedd. Mam yn hynod o falch o’n gweld, Dad yn eistedd yn gyfforddus yn ei gadair freichiau, a’r ci, Poppy, wedi drysu ac yn syndod o swil o flaen y camera!

Mae hwn yn gyfnod heriol iawn i bobl, yn enwedig y rheiny sy’n fregus a’r rheiny sy’n byw ar eu pen eu hunain. Mae pob un ohonom yn cefnogi ein hanwyliaid a’n cymdogion gystal ag y gallwn, ac yn y ffordd fwyaf diogel posibl yn ystod yr argyfwng hwn, a does dim amheuaeth bod nifer ohonoch yn eu helpu i gysylltu ag eraill trwy eu dyfeisiau digidol. Oddi ar ein rhifyn diwethaf, bu Cymunedau Digidol Cymru yn gweithio’n galed i ddatblygu adnoddau penodol a chyrsiau hyfforddi ar-lein a allai fod o ddefnydd i chi. Mae yna lawer o wybodaeth ar gael i bobl fynd i’r afael â hi ond, gyda dros ddegawd o brofiad o fynd i’r afael ag allgáu digidol, mae Canolfan Cydweithredol Cymru wedi creu byrddau adnoddau ar-lein sy’n hawdd eu defnyddio ac yn hygyrch, i chi eu defnyddio a’u rhannu â’ch teulu, eich ffrindiau, eich cyd-weithwyr a defnyddwyr eich gwasanaethau.

Byrddau Adnoddau Cymunedau Digidol Cymru

Eich siop un stop ar gyfer adnoddau ar-lein yn ystod COVID-19

I greu’r byrddau hyn, rydym wedi defnyddio ap o’r enw Padlets; mae’n rhwydd llywio trwyddo ac mae’n ein galluogi i grwpio gwybodaeth yn ôl ei pherthnasedd i bwnc. Byddwn yn diweddaru pob Padlet pan fyddwn yn dod o hyd i adnodd newydd, felly byddwn yn argymell eich bod yn rhoi nod tudalen i’r dolenni uchod ac yn cadw golwg am ddiweddariadau.

CDC COVID-19 tudalen we

Os hoffech gael rhagor o wybodaeth am ein padlets thema, ewch i’n tudalen COVID-19 bwrpasol ar wefan Cymunedau Digidol Cymru. Yma, byddwch yn dod o hyd i adnoddau a chanllawiau defnyddiol eraill i’ch helpu trwy’r sefyllfa bresennol, gan gynnwys yr adnoddau gwych Learn My Way Resources a BT Skills for Tomorrow, a adeiladwyd gan ein partneriaid yn y Deyrnas Unedig, Good Things Foundation.

Cadwch olwg am sgamiau!

Efallai bod gennych grŵp Facebook Coronafeirws. Gall apiau megis Grwpiau Cymunedol Facebook, Grwpiau WhatsApp a’r rhwydwaith cymunedol Nextdoor, sy’n anfon rhybuddion cymunedol, fod yn ffyrdd gwych o gadw mewn cysylltiad â’r rhai sydd o’ch cwmpas; fodd bynnag, gall fod yn anodd gwybod pwy i ymddiried ynddo.

Mae Tîm Sgamiau Safonau Masnach Cenedlaethol wedi cynhyrchu deunyddiau defnyddiol i helpu i hyrwyddo ymwybyddiaeth o sgamiau coronafeirws (COVID-19) yn ystod y cyfnod anodd hwn. Yn ogystal â lawrlwythiad defnyddiol ar sut i amddiffyn pobl a’u hatal rhag dioddef o sgamiau ar-lein, mae’r wefan hefyd yn cynnwys deunyddiau hyfforddi defnyddiol ar gyfer pobl sydd am fod yn ‘Ffrind yn Erbyn Sgamiau’.

Yma i’ch helpu

Mae gennym dîm gwych wrth law i helpu’r bobl yr ydych yn eu cynorthwyo i fynd ar-lein, ac rydym yn gwneud ein gorau i weithio mewn amgylchiadau sy’n newid yn gyson. Fodd bynnag, rhaid i mi nodi mai swm cyfyngedig o git sydd gennym i’w fenthyca ar hyn o bryd ac, fel y gallwch ddychmygu, mae yna alw mawr amdano. Rydym wrthi’n ceisio gwella’r sefyllfa, ond rydym bob amser yma i ddarparu cymorth, arweiniad a hyfforddiant ar eich cyfer – ffoniwch ni ar 0300 111 5050 neu anfonwch neges e-bost i [email protected].

Cymerwch ofal ohonoch eich hun ac o eraill.
