Covid: 27 deaths in Wales including one in Cardiff and Vale

THERE have been 27 new Covid-related deaths in Wales, including one in the Cardiff and Vale area.

This means that, according to Public Health Wales, 7,122 people have died because of Covid in Wales since the start of the pandemic.

In the Cardiff and Vale area, 929 people have died in total.

The case rate in the Vale of Glamorgan is high, with 93.6 cases being reported per 100,000 people.

This is the third highest case rate in Wales, with only Torfaen (97.9) and Blaenau Gwent (94.5) having higher rates.

There have been 125 new cases in the Vale reported and Cardiff has the most new cases in the country with 253.

However, due to the population density of Cardiff, this still means that the case rate in the capital (69) is lower than that of the Vale.

It is still higher than the average for Wales, which is 68.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Including residents outside Wales, there are 2,206 new cases in Wales.
