Woodland Creation Grant Schemes

planting Following its first successful round last autumn, the second window for Expression of Interest for our new woodland creation schemes opened Monday 13 February and will close 24 March 2023. The indicative budget for the two schemes:

  • Woodland Creation Grant, and
  • Small Grants – Woodland Creation Scheme

is £14 million for the 2023/24 financial year, and £16 million for 2024/25.

To be able to apply for the Woodland Creation Grant you must first apply to the Woodland Creation Planning Scheme, you will need confirmation of a verified plan from NRW by 10 March 2023.

For the Small Grants – Woodland Creation Scheme, there is no need for a woodland creation plan before you apply.

We have produced a short booklet – Woodland creation grants: guidance. It outlines the grants available for woodland creation and provides links for further information.

New ‘Climate Action Wales’ Digital Hub

caw The draft ‘Strategy for Public Engagement & Action on Climate Change’ (which is currently being reviewed in response to feedback from the consultation) described a delivery route map for the next 12 months to exemplify, engage, enable and encourage everyone to play their part in tackling the climate emergency. One of the priorities highlighted in this route map was the commitment to deliver a new national website to help us all make greener energy, transport, food and consumption choices.

This new digital resource will provide accessible and informative content to actively support and enable people and communities across Wales to make informed choices on green behaviours, and learn more about the co-benefits these actions will bring to our health, wealth, wellbeing, and in protecting and improving the quality of our local environment. The first phase of this new website will go live in the Summer and the Welsh Government will be reaching out shortly to key national and regional climate stakeholders and partners to ensure it signposts to relevant and trusted sources of information. Just Transition: Call for Evidence

Delivering a just transition will mean, moving to a cleaner, stronger, fairer Wales, leaving no-one behind.

This Call for Evidence is important to ensure plans are based on robust evidence. Evidence and research is needed to help inform the approach to just transition. This includes improving understanding of the impacts and opportunities for Wales.
