Members gathered at the Phil John Room for the second meeting of 2019. Present at this meeting were: Gill Davies: Chair, Ron Walton, Anne Marie Little, Elaine Hardy, Lee Stuart, Brian Power, Val Walters, Ann Sear, Mark Collard, Kay Burns and Tracey Harding, Vale Arts Development Officer.

Forum News : At the Executive meeting on March 21st members present met our new Older Persons Champion, Cllr. Ben Grey. Next Executive meeting date is April 11th, a week earlier, due to Easter Holidays.
All Forum members are welcome to attend these meetings, held usually at the Civic Offices in Barry. However the June 20th meeting, will be in Llantwit Major at CF61. This the new base for Glamorgan Voluntary Services, GVS, in Rural Vale. The International Older Persons Day Event on October 1st, will also be celebrated at this venue.
Jim Loach, Chair of Housing, has resigned from this position due to other commitments. However, he intends to stay on the Executive Committee.
Chair distributed the new Herald magazine to ACL members. A bumper edition, which possibly will be the last in its current form.
Art News: ACL members visit Art Central Gallery, Barry Library annually. This visit viewed the Women’s Art Association Exhibition, which celebrates International Woman’ s Day held annually on March 8th. This Exhibition provided a range of talent, from art watercolours, ironstone ceramics, oils and acrylic paintings. Members chose a favourite piece of work, and then as a group exercise, gave the reason for their selections. Their choices were both varied and amusing. Tracey then gave a brief history of the W.A.A, and, also updated the group on the next Gallery Exhibition. This will be an Open Books Touring Exhibition, opening on April 13th. It comprises of a WALES/CHINA Paper Exchange. This ends on May 11th. Gallery entrance is free, and is open daily from 9.30am to 4pm.
From May 18th until June 1st, Keith Moore, celebrates the residents of Barry with his camera.. Some of the images that he has captured will be exhibited for local residents to enjoy in his celebration of an ever changing community that is Barry. Namely, A Year In The Life of Barry.
At the Travellers Gallery, Broad Street Station Barry, the forthcoming Exhibition presents Rhys Horler with Superheroes. His work comprises of a mixture of prints and paintings. This Exhibition opens on April 15th. Closes on May 10th. Travellers Gallery opens Monday to Friday, 7am to 12noon. No charge to view, all the cafe proceeds benefit Mind charity.
Member, Mark Collard updated ACL members on his forthcoming Musical, Waiting For Blue. This One Night Only production is to be performed at Cadoxton Conservative Club on Friday April 26th. A semi staged event it is a tribute to the life of his late father-in-law, Mel. Waiting For Blue has already featured in UK Country and Western charts, (2017) and Mark continues to develop his diverse musical talent. A number of ACL members will be attending, to support Mark and his family at this event. Raffle proceeds to benefit Dementia Awareness.
