Art Craft and Leisure meetings


The first meeting of the New Year found ACL members back in the Phil John Room,  at Barry Library.
The Chair was able to report that the first Chairs Meeting, held on  December 17th, was a very successful get together. These meetings will be held  quarterly and give Chairs of the Task Groups a chance to discuss policies and other issues, prior to monthly Executive meetings. Next meeting : February 11th.

The January Executive Meeting held on the 17th, was well attended. Cllr. Gordon Kemp, Older Persons Champion was present. Next Meeting : February 21st.  ACL Chair will give her report to the Executive. All Forum members are welcome to attend. Meetings are held at the Civic Offices. Time: 2pm to 4pm.

Next Exhibition at Art Central  is the Holocaust Memorial Day, HMD, contribution to the Gallery. This runs from January 26th to March 2nd. HMD is commemorated annually on January 27th. Aptly titled ‘Torn From Home’ the two artists featured are Alison Lockhead and Nerea Martinez de Lecca. Both of these artists through different mediums, address the continuing horror of war.  Brian Power, member of ACL has his own Exhibition at the Barry Travellers Gallery, Broad Street Station. This runs from January 28th to March 2nd. Brian handed out invites to his Opening Night on February 1st to Group members. Organised by VOGA, Vale of Glamorgan Artists, all proceeds benefit MIND charity. Both are free Exhibitions. Chair welcomed John Porter to the Meeting. John will be leaving his post as our Strategy Coordinator in February. ACL was founded by John in March 2011 and he will be missed, particularly for his support of the Arts within the 50+ community. A card was signed by all members present and given to him. Member Mark Collard, who has worked with John in support of his local Dementia Strategy, gave ACL details of his One Night Only Musical performance, namely ‘Waiting For Blue’ this is to be held on April 26th at Cadoxton Conservative Club, Barry. Tickets to include entertainment and food are £10. Proceeds to Dementia Research. John is one of the supporting acts. Should be a FUN Night !! Contact Mark: on 07934112279, for more information.
